The Town:

Breckenridge is committed to its historic heritage and to the early pioneers who first settled here.  Upon arriving in Breckenridge you will note the unique, mine-related architecture that reflects each of the town’s historic phases of developments.  Its history spans from its settlement in 1859 to the shutdown of the last gold dredging operation in 1942.  The Breckenridge Heritage Alliance provides educational tours and hands on activities including a historic walking tour of downtown Breckenridge, with information about the Ute Indians, trappers and miners.  Several museums and mining areas are open to the public.  If you want to step back in history come to Breckenridge.

Condo Market:
Breckenridge has a variety of different types of condos, duplexes, and town homes.  At any given time an assortment of some estimated 400 plus properties are on the market.  They range in price from $100,000 on up to $2,000,000.  The wide price range is due to such factors as ski-in/ski-out, locations in town, age of the property, square footage, on a bus route, and amenities.  Some new condo developments have recently been completed while others are under construction.  Several are in close proximity to the peak seven and peak eight gondola providing easy access to ski lifts and also to downtown restaurants, stores, and night life in Breckenridge.

History of Breckenridge

Nestled in the ten mile mountain range, Breckenridge is Colorado’s first western slope town.  When Ruben J Spalding found gold in the Blue River in 1859 it didn’t take long for word to get out.  General George E. Spencer intended on capturing a town site near the first claims.  He named it Breckinridge (with an “i”) after US Vice President John Cabell Breckinridge.  One to two hundred prospectors arrived daily.

Widely known for its skiing, Breckenridge sits at the base of Breckenridge ski resort. Breckenridge is a real town with real people. Its’ character is uncompromised by it growth.  Since purchased by Vail in 1996, Breckenridge has ranked in the nations top 3 resorts visited each year.

All the other resorts are not in a real town. This is the place that dreams are made of! You can walk from your home or condo to many nearby shops and restaurants all year round. The pulse of Breckenridge slows during the off seasons between Summer and winter, however it is always a destination for tourists and home to many all year round.  Many residents will tell you that they came to spend one winter, but have staryed for many years!
